In honor of the 30 year anniversary of student scholarship support, the Alumni Association has launched a $2 million endowment campaign. The endowment ensures scholarship funding in perpetuity and enables the Alumni Association to continue attracting and retaining the best quality students to UCR.
In 1976, the UCR Alumni Association wanted to help attract the best and brightest students to UCR. From its pool of membership dues, the Alumni Association began a scholarship program and granted $1,000 awards to six incoming freshman students.
The amount and number of scholarships have grown exponentially over the past three decades. Since the program's inception, more than $1.6 million have been awarded to over 900 students. Providing scholarship support to students is a proud tradition of the UCR Alumni Association.
With the help of UCR alumni, twelve regional selection committees are organized to interview potential scholarship recipients. The time commitment is minimal. The committees meet for one evening after work or one Saturday afternoon in February to conduct the interviews.
