Tracy L. Kahn '87 Ph.D. Botany
Tracy L. Kahn ('87 Ph.D. Botany) is curator of UCR’s Citrus Variety Collection, the world’s most diverse living collection of citrus and citrus relatives. She evaluates the commercial potential of new citrus varieties, conducts a myriad of extension activities on citrus for the industry and coordinates UCR’s citrus tasting display at Riverside’s annual Orange Blossom Festival. She provides tours of the Citrus Variety Collection to international and national citrus growers, nurserymen, and other industry representatives, as well as students and teachers from local public schools and colleges.
Kahn received her bachelor’s degree in botany from the University of Michigan and her Ph.D. in botany from UCR in 1987.
In 2003, she participated in the University/Eastside Community Collaborative César Chávez Celebration Through the Arts Project working with sixth graders on a service/learning project focusing on local citrus heritage. Kahn is a board member for the California Citrus State Historic Park Non-Profit Management Corporation. From 1996-2001, she chaired the 24-member Citrus Genetic Resources Task Force. In 2000, she received the “UCR Staff Who Make a Difference” award from the UCR Staff Assembly in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the University.
Kahn is a graduate of Leadership Riverside and continues to contribute time to the program. She serves on the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee for HIV/AIDS, the Scientific Advisory Boards for the Riverside Land Conservancy and the Riverside Municipal Museum, and the Senior-Year Activities Planning Committee at Poly High School. She was a multiyear member of the Friends of UCR Botanic Gardens Board.
