The Burrtec Waste Industries, Inc. Scholarship
Burrtec Waste Industries,
Inc. has committed $30,000 to the UCR Alumni Association's Scholarship Program
for a five-year period. During this time, the Alumni
Association will award one $6,000 scholarship to a UCR student.
The recipient must be able to contribute 30 hours of community service
per quarter to the Alumni Association during the academic year. Qualified applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Full-Time UCR Student
- Graduate of a high school in the Inland Empire (Riverside and San Bernardino Counties)
- 3.0 or higher GPA
- Course of study for a major in the field of business, engineering or science
- Preferred, but not required, course of study with a focus on environmental programs
Burrtec Waste Industries, Inc., its sister company EDCO Disposal Corporation and other Burrtec affiliated companies collectively make up the largest privately held solid waste management organization in the State of California. The two companies also represent the second largest family-owned company in the industry and were ranked 15th on the Waste Age 100, a national listing of private and public, solid-waste management and recycling companies.
Originally started
by the Burr family in 1955, the company is still owned and operated by the
Burrs' as the organization continues to grow through the acquisitions of city
franchises and private disposal companies.
Today, Burrtec's
service base includes over 150,000 residential customers, and more than 16,000
commercial customers throughout Riverside, San Bernardino and Los Angeles
Counties.
