"Highlander Day on the Greens"

Palm Desert, CA

LPGA star Annika Sorenstam will headline this fundraiser for UCR's men's and women's golf. Money raised from the event will support student-athlete scholarships and provide team travel funding.

Sorenstam will conduct a golf clinic. Groups will then go out to play a round of golf with members of the UCR golf teams before returning to the clubhouse for the closing program.

Attendance at this exclusive event is limited; however, a few spots remain open. Cost to participate begins at $1,500 per person.

UCR's vision for a world-class program in genome biology will come closer to materializing with construction of the state-of-the-art Genomics Building, future home for Institute of Integrative Genome Biology (IIGB) faculty and staff. The ceremonial Ground Breaking is scheduled for October 18, 2006 at 4 p.m. and will feature a distinguished lecture and special observations from:

NATASHA V. RAIKHEL: Ernst and Helen Liebacher Distinguished Professor of Plant Cell Biology and Director, Center for Plant Cell Biology

A reception and dinner at the University Theatre Patio will start at 5 p.m., followed by a distinguished lecture by Dr. Chris Somerville. Dr. Somerville is a world-renowned investigator and pioneer in the fields of plant molecular, cell biology and biochemistry. He has received numerous awards for his scientific achievements, and is a member of the National Academy of Sciences ( USA) and the Royal Society (UK National Academy of Science).
