UCR Partners with Chinese University to Address China’s Environmental Problems - According to the World Bank, China has one of the worst pollution problems on the planet, and is second only to the United States in emissions of carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas linked to global warming. China is also home to 20 of the world’s 30 most air-polluted cities.

UC Riverside Research Leads to Self-Improving Chips with Speed "Warping " - Imagine owning an automobile that can change its engine to suit your driving needs – when you’re tooling about town, it works like a super-fast sports car; when you’re hauling a heavy load, it operates like a strong, durable truck engine. While this turn-on-a-dime flexibility is impossible for cars to achieve, it is now possible for today’s computer chips.

Nine UCR Faculty Members Recognized by the American Association for the Advancement of Science - The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) has named nine researchers at UC Riverside as 2007 AAAS Fellows, bringing the total number of UCR faculty who have been recognized with this distinction to 159. Four UCR alumni were also honored, R.Kelly Dawe '85 M.S., University of Georgia; Michael A. Arthur '71, '74 M.S., Pennsylvania State University; Carol A. Barnes '71, University of Arizona; and Jean C. Shih '68 Ph.D., University of Southern California....more

Hubble Spies Shells of Sparkling Stars around Quasar - New images taken with NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope – part of a research project led by UC Riverside’s Gabriela Canalizo – have revealed the wild side of an elliptical galaxy, nearly two billion light-years away, that previously had been considered mild-mannered.

V. John White V. John White '73 B.A. is the Executive Director of the Center for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Technologies (CEERT), which he co-founded in 1990. CEERT is a nonprofit, environmental/public interest organization that advocates investments in sustainable energy at the state and regional levels. Prior to 1983, John worked for nine years as a committee consultant for the California State Legislature, working for a succession of legislative committees. Over the course of his twenty-year career, John has become known as the leading legislative expert on California air quality law and regulation.

You have an excellent opportunity to provide visibility to outstanding UCR alumni by submitting a nomination for the Alumni Awards of Distinction.  The award categories are Distinguished Alumnus, Alumni Community Service, Alumni University Service, Alumni Public Service, and Outstanding Young Alumnus

The deadline to submit nominations is Friday, December 1, 2007.
