"Eastside Story," Produced by UC Riverside, Cited as National Model for Service Learning

The University Eastside Community Collaborative Center for Public Service production of "Eastside Story," an original play written by youth from Riversideās Eastside neighborhood, has been declared a national model for service learning. The students, and the teachers and faculty who assisted them with the production, have been invited to make a presentation at the National Service Learning Conference in Orlando, Florida between March 27 and 31. The National Youth Leadership Council organizes the conference. Read the full story

UC Regents Endorse Prop. 55

The UC Board of Regents has endorsed Proposition 55, which would provide funding for K-12 and higher education facility needs through 2006. If approved by voters on March 2, Proposition 55 would provide the University of California with $690 million to repair and build facilities. Specifically, UC Riverside would see more than $100 million in new construction and renovation to relieve overcrowding and accommodate growing enrollments. Click here for more information.

Slate of nominations announced

The UCR Alumni Association Nominations Committee has proposed the following slate of nominees to serve a two-year term beginning on July 1, 2004: Chris Banta ('92), Antoinette Morales ('93), and Ken Noller ('75, '84 M.A.). Officers from the current board of directors elected for a two-year term effective July 1 are Jack Clarke ('80), president-elect, and Laurie A. Maguire ('77, '80 M.Admin.), secretary-treasurer. Reynolds Memorial Carillon Recital

Alumni and friends are invited to attend the William H. Reynolds Memorial Carillon Recital on Sunday, March 7 from 3-4 p.m. on the UCR campus. The panelists took a break from answering student questions to take a group photo. Alumni serve a critical role to current UCR students in providing career insights and opportunities. Travel the globe and expand your horizons

The UCR Alumni Association offers a travel program that provides participants opportunities to broaden their cultural horizons, foster ties with the University, and enhance camaraderie with fellow alumni while exploring distant lands. Destinations for the 2004 travel program include Italy, Ireland, Russia, Spain and Scotland. Each tour not only offers social and cultural activities but provides memorable learning experiences as well. Tour participants, whether alumni or friends, must be members of the UCR Alumni Association. UC Day in Sacramento Postponed to May 26

The annual UC Day in Sacramento Legislative Conference, sponsored by the Alumni Associations of the University of California (AAUC), has been postponed until May 26, 2004. UC Day is the one time of the year when all nine UC alumni associations come together to meet with elected officials and discuss higher education issues.
