UCR Researchers Discover New Way to Store Information Via DNA
In their paper, “Length-based Encoding of Binary Data in DNA,” the researchers discovered a system to encode digital information within DNA. This method relies on the length of the fragments obtained by the partial restriction digest rather than the actual content of the nucleotide sequence. Mike Perry '96 B.S. (Chemical Engineering, Bourns College of Engineering) is owner of the award-winning coffee house, Coffee Klatch, located in Rancho Cucamonga and San Dimas. Coffee Klatch Roasting has been recognized as serving the “Best Espresso in America” by the Los Angeles Times and the “Best Espresso in the World” by a panel of judges at the 2007 World Barista Championship in Tokyo, Japan. Mike has received the TOPS Award for excellence in specialty coffee retailing five times. The Specialty Coffee Association of America presents the TOPS Award every year to only 35 coffee houses throughout the world. |

The UCR Alumni Association Board of Directors is a dedicated group of volunteers which establishes Association policy, reviews programs, and works closely with the administration to advance the mission of the University of California Riverside.
Nominations to fill the offices of directors whose terms expire this year may be made by the regular members of the Association on written petition signed by not less than 25 such members in good standing and filed with the Executive Director at any time between the publication of the Nominations Committee's report and one week prior to the date of the Spring Meeting of the Board of Directors.
The UCR Alumni Association Nominations Committee proposes the following slate of nominees to serve a two-year term beginning July 1, 2008:

You’ve seen the lists…Top 10, 20, 28 (and so on) places to see before you die. The UCR Alumni Association's travel program is one resource to help you check places off of your “life list.” The Association is offering a tour of north India. Highlights include the Taj Mahal, the finest example of Mughal architecture; Ranthambore National Park; the rose pink city of Jaipur; the colorful and vibrant Pushkar Camel Fair; the 15th century Jain temple at Ranakpur; and Udaipur, the “Venice of the East.” The tour is scheduled for October 30-November 12 and is priced at $3,790 per person for land only.

Contact the UCR Alumni Association to request a detailed brochure or to be placed on the Association’s travel list. Tour participants, whether UCR alumni or not, must be members of the UCR Alumni Association. Each member may bring one companion to travel as a guest. |
