UCR Foundation Reaches $50 Million Goal
The University of California, Riverside Foundation completed its first significant capital campaign early and exceeded the $50 million goal, university officials announced. “The community and alumni stepped up to help us mark the special occasion of the 50th anniversary of the arrival our first UC class of students,” said Chancellor France A. Córdova.

The fundraising effort netted $50.9 million from 10,190 donors, nearly half of them first-time givers to the campus, according to Vice Chancellor for Advancement William G. Boldt. The campaign, dubbed "Evolutions: The 50th Anniversary Campaign", originally was scheduled to end Dec. 30, but officially closed eight months early on April 30, he said. The money will be used for scholarships, fellowships, programs, chairs and campus-wide initiatives.

Parent of the Year Award

Vanthy Ly
accepts the Parent of the Year award
with her daughter Sereyvan Chea and Chancellor France A. Córdova.

An excerpt of the winning essay, written by Sereyvan:

When someone asks me, “Who is your hero?” an image of my beautiful mother appears in my mind. She is the perfect candidate for Parent of the Year because despite her devastating struggle during the horrendous Cambodian Holocaust, she has managed to inspire and motivate the lives of her children and many homeless and parentless children. My mother possesses three valuable characteristics: courage, dedication, and kindness. These traits enable her to touch many children’s hearts and minds.
