LA Chapter's Hollywood Bowl Event
UCR alumni and friends are invited to join the Los Angeles Chapter of the UCR Alumni Association at their annual Hollywood Bowl outing on Saturday, August 19, 2006.

The program will be "The Great American Concert: Walt Disney's Fantasia with Fireworks." Nearly 70 years ago, Walt Disney used the skill of his world-class animators to visualize the world of classical music. The result: Walt Disney's Fantasia. For the first time, John Mauceri  and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra recreate this magic - an evening of musical selections with film clips on the Bowl's big screens.

You'll see your favorites as well as the world premiere of Clair de lune, plus a glimpse into the brilliant artwork and unfinished segments of this masterpiece. The evening ends with fireworks that complement the spectacular beauty of this cinematic triumph.

Tickets cost $35 for Alumni Association members, $38 for non-members. The deadline for reservations and payment is June 30, 2006. Click here for more information.

Commencement Award Recipient

Sean Kaloostian
Recipient of the 2006 Alumni Commencement Award

Since 1965, the UCR Alumni Association has recognized a graduating senior who has volunteered significant time and effort to community service projects and programs.

Sean's volunteer work has centered in the medical field, especially in underserved communities, and he has clocked over 700 volunteer hours at hospitals in the Los Angeles area. He also participates in campus tutoring and mentoring programs to help students majoring in the sciences. His reward: seeing the "light come on" and having students understand the course material and be able to apply concepts to problems.

Academically, Sean is a triple major (Psychology, Sociology, Biology), and recently was accepted into the Thomas Haider Biomedical Sciences Program. In addition, Sean participates in the University Honors Program, raised money for Hurricane Katrina victims, is involved in running and planning community races, and plays classical piano and guitar.
